Project Update – The Return of Chronicle 4

Hello everyone,

It’s been a long time since the last update, and I wanted to share some news and thoughts about the future of this project.

Years ago, I set out to build a Lineage II Chronicle 4 server with L2Gold-inspired features. The idea was to blend the classic retail feel with some modern custom elements. Unfortunately, as it often happens, life got busy and the project was left frozen for quite some time.

But now, things are changing and I’m ready to bring it back.

A New Vision: Retail-like Chronicle 4

This time around, the focus is different.

The plan is to launch a low-rate Chronicle 4 server that offers an experience close to the original retail, with no pay-to-win mechanics, no crazy customs, just a solid, nostalgic adventure.

Core Goals:

Low Rates – slower, meaningful progression
Retail-like Gameplay – pure Chronicle 4 experience
PvE-Focused – suitable for solo or small-group play
Community-Based – made for a small, tight-knit playerbase
Long-Term Vision – slow, stable development and hosting over time

Remember, this is something I’m doing as a hobby, a labor of love, not a commercial project. The goal is to create a space where a few dedicated players can enjoy the game together over the long haul.

Revamping the Gamemaster Roster

Along with the relaunch, I’m changing the Gamemaster team. My goal is not to build the next big server with thousands of players, but to bring back a small, old player community and give it a home.

Think of it as a cozy place where a handful of people can return from time to time, enjoy the game at their own pace, and feel welcome. I want this to be a server that lasts for years a long-term project, not a flash in the pan.

Hosting Tech: Low Cost, High Efficiency

To keep things sustainable, the server will start on a very low-cost hosting setup:

Running inside a Docker container on a Raspberry Pi
Lightweight and efficient, perfect for a small community
If the server grows (and only if it does), we’ll upgrade the hardware and hosting step-by-step

This approach keeps the project manageable and allows it to survive long term without heavy expenses.

What About L2Gold Features?

The original L2Gold inspired ideas are not completely off the table. However, they won’t be a part of this first server.

If there’s interest in the future, I may consider launching a separate server with those features. But for now, the goal is to stay close to retail and keep things simple, stable, and sustainable.

The Beauty of the Grind

For many of us, the charm of Chronicle 4 and Lineage II in general wasn’t just about leveling up or rushing to the endgame. It was about the journey itself. The slow, steady grind that made every level, every quest, and every drop feel earned.

Remember those nights spent farming mobs endlessly, trading tips with friends on how to optimize XP routes, or the thrill of finally crafting that elusive item? The grind forged friendships and community, as we all shared the same goal: patience and persistence.

There was a unique satisfaction in seeing your character grow bit by bit, knowing that every hour spent was building something real. No shortcuts, no instant gratification just the pure joy of playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

This server will be a tribute to those days. A place where you can take your time, savor every moment, and rediscover the true spirit of the grind.

Timeline?

There’s no official launch date yet. I’m currently rebuilding, testing, and making sure the foundation is solid. Once there’s enough progress, I’ll share more updates right here.

For many of us who spent countless hours exploring its digital realms, battling fearsome creatures, forging alliances, and forging unforgettable memories, this anniversary is a poignant reminder of the vibrant virtual world that once was.

One of the core aspects we’ve focused on is class balancing. Our aim is to make sure that all classes, including crafters, spoilers, summoners, doomcryers, and shillien elders, get the attention they deserve and are brought up to par with other classes in terms of effectiveness and viability.

Here’s what you can expect from our class balancing efforts:

Crafters and Spoilers: We understand the importance of these classes in the game’s economy and progression. To encourage players to engage more actively in crafting and spoiling, we have boosted their abilities. They will be able to collect rare materials more efficiently, and their crafted items will have unique bonuses, making them indispensable in various aspects of the game.
Summoners: The summoner classes often suffer from being overshadowed by other damage-dealing classes. We are determined to change that. By boosting their summoning abilities and enhancing their pets, summoners will become formidable forces in both PvE and PvP. They will be able to hold their own in battles and contribute significantly to group activities.
Doomcryers and Shillien Elders: These support classes will be crucial in enhancing the overall group dynamics and strategy. To ensure they are not left behind in the shadows, we are elevating their support abilities. Expect their buffs, debuffs, and healing spells to be more potent, making them essential team members in both PvE and PvP encounters.

Our primary goal is to encourage players to pick the classes they genuinely enjoy playing, rather than feeling compelled to opt for the most dominant classes. We want every class to have a meaningful role and shine in its unique way.

In this server, players will have the opportunity to reset their skills through Changeable Rebirths. This feature allows you to experiment with different builds and playstyles without creating multiple characters. However, keep in mind that this convenience comes with a fee, making your choices all the more significant.

Sub Classes

Diversify your gameplay by unlocking Sub Classes! This feature lets you add a secondary class to your character, granting access to a new skill set and allowing you to adapt to various situations. Embrace the versatility and create a unique combination of classes that suits your playstyle.

Hard Farming and Medium Difficulty Leveling

We believe in the value of hard work and dedication, which is why we’ve implemented hard farming mechanics in our server. Earning resources and rewards will require time and effort, providing a sense of accomplishment for your achievements. Additionally, we’ve balanced the leveling experience to be moderately challenging, ensuring that the journey to end game content is both engaging and rewarding.

Regular Buffs and Special Buffs

Prepare for battle with Regular Buffs that last for a generous 30 minutes, allowing you to venture into the world of Aden with confidence. For more intense encounters, Special Buffs will be available for a limited time of 5 minutes, providing that extra edge during crucial moments.

Raid Boss L2Gold Drops

Raid Bosses are formidable foes, and their rewards should match their challenge. To maintain a balanced economy and preserve the thrill of the hunt, L2Gold drops from raid bosses will start conservatively. Brace yourself for fierce battles and strategic planning to claim the ultimate prizes!

Enchanting and Safe Enchant Limits

Weapon and armor enchanting can make a significant difference in your character’s power, but it won’t be an easy task. Enchantments will be relatively challenging at the beginning, fostering a competitive environment where dedication and strategy reign supreme. To safeguard your progress, weapons will have a safe enchant limit of +3, armor (except full-body armors that will have a safe enchant limit of +4) will have a safe enchant limit of +3, and jewels will have a safe enchant limit of +3.

Refining Manager at Random Places and Times

A unique twist awaits you with the Refining Manager feature. The Refining Manager will be available at random locations and times, adding an element of unpredictability to your refining endeavors. Stay alert and seize the opportunity to enhance your items whenever it arises!

Olympiad

Compete against other skilled players in the prestigious Olympiad. We’ve divided the schedule to ensure fairness: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday will be class-based Olympiad competitions, allowing you to showcase your expertise with specific classes. On the other days, it will be non-class based, testing your versatility and adaptability.

Max Enchant and Skill Enchantment

The quest for perfection in your gear won’t be an easy one. A-grade weapons can be enchanted up to +10, while armors and jewels have a maximum enchant limit of +6. Skill enchantment will also be capped at +10, ensuring a balanced and exciting gameplay experience.
